‘The Phantom of the Opera’ closes on Broadway after 35 years NEW YORK (AP) — The final curtain came down Sunday on New York’s production of “The Phantom of the Opera,” ending Broadway’s longest-running show with thunderous standing ovations, champagne toasts and gold confetti.It was show No. 13,981 at the Majestic Theatre and it ended with a reprise of “The Music of the Night” performed by the current cast, previous actors in the show — including original star Sarah Brightman — and crew members.Andrew Lloyd Webber took to the stage in a black suit and black tie and dedicated the final show to his son, Nick, who died last month after a protracted battle with gastric cancer and pneumonia. CPD: Fatal shooting leads to SWAT intervention in Garfield Park CHICAGO — A 20-year-old man is dead after a fatal shooting that led to SWAT intervention in Garfield Park late Sunday afternoon.According to the Chicago Police Department, a 20-year-old man was walking westbound in the 3800 block of West Arthington Street around 4:15 p.m. when four unknown offenders approached him and opened fire, hitting him in the face.The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. 2 teens shot in the Loop during large disturbance After the shooting, the offenders ran into a building in the 900 block of South Springfield Avenue where SWAT is currently investigating the incident. No explosives found at Texas Capitol after bomb threat reported AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Department of Public Safety said no explosive devices were found at the Texas State Capitol after an earlier bomb threat evacuated the grounds Sunday afternoon. Texas DPS sent an alert obtained by KXAN shortly after 4 p.m. that said Austin Police Department received a 911 call from an unknown person. The caller said there was a pipe bomb at the Capitol. DPS troopers and bomb-sniffing dogs searched the grounds to determine there was no explosive found. 7 tornadoes hit St. Louis region Saturday, National Weather Service says ST. LOUIS – Preliminary assessments from the National Weather Service (NWS) show at least seven tornadoes touched down in areas south of St. Louis and across the river in Illinois on Saturday, up from earlier reports.Five of the seven tornadoes were rated EF-1, with one of the twisters scoring a 0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which is based on "estimated wind speeds and related damage." Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported or confirmed as of Sunday afternoon.In St. Louis County, an EF-1 tornado with 100-mile per hour winds touched down in Fenton and moved about 4.5 miles through Sunset Hills.The tornado with the shortest path happened in Hillsboro. An EF-0 tornado with winds of 77 miles an hour touched down for a little more than a half-mile.In Pevely, an EF-1 twister tore up Jefferson County for about 1 mile, the NWS said. St. Charles boy, 5, killed in tractor accident LINCOLN COUNTY, Mo. - A 5-year-old boy from St. Charles, Missouri, died Sunday after falling out of a tractor he was riding.According to a crash report filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 1:05 p.m. on Apex Lane, approximately half a mile north of Marre Road, in Lincoln County.State law enforcement claims a 59-year-old Foley, Missouri, man as driving a John Deere 8230 on a gravel roadway on private property. The child was a passenger on the tractor.
