ATLANTA — Former first lady Rosalynn Carter, the closest adviser to Jimmy Carter during his one term as U.S. president and their four decades thereafter as global humanitarians, has died at the age of 96.The Carter Center said she died Sunday after living with dementia and suffering many months of declining health. The statement announcing her death said she “died peacefully, with family by her side” at 2:10 p.m. at her rural Georgia home of Plains.“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” Carter said in the statement. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. The City of Toronto has opened warming centres ahead of what is expected to be the coldest stretch of weather in the city so far this season.The city opened the three centres at 5 p.m. Sunday with the temperatures expected to fall to -5 C overnight into Monday morning. With the windchill it will feel closer to -8.The three warming centres are located downtown at 75 Elizabeth Street, in North York at Willowdale Baptist Church (15 Olive Avenue), and in Scarborough at St. John the Divine Anglican Church (885 Scarborough Golf Club Road). CHICAGO — An investigation is underway after two juveniles were found shot to death in an alley on the city's South Side, police say.According to Chicago police, the two boys were found in an alley in the 800 block of East 89th Place in Chatham just before 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. 3 people, including police officer, injured in car crash on South Side Officers say both victims suffered gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead on the scene by Chicago fire officials.Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and police say no arrests have been made.Authorities have not yet identified anyone involved and an investigation is now underway. The public is invited to a Dec. 13 open house on the Radio Drive expansion project.The open house will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the East Ridge High School, at 4200 Pioneer Drive in Woodbury, in the Media Center. There will be no formal presentation about the project.The proposed project will be on Radio Drive from Military Road (County Highway 20) to Hargis Parkway. It will expand the two-lane highway to a four-lane highway, and add multi-modal trails. The project will also build facilities to manage and treat stormwater runoff, and aims to improve safety along the corridor, considering a traffic circle or roundabout at the intersection of Radio Drive and Dale Road.Public engagement and preliminary design will occur in 2023 and 2024, with final design coming in 2024 and 2025.
